Waking up before the rooster to ride is easy to do so that I can hang out with these guys after work.
from spitting up to sitting up...
to rocking our world! ;-)
Gonna be toughening up the gearing on Rita for Baker's Dozen.
From 32x19 currently to 34x18 or maybe even 34x17. Whatever it takes to justify all the chains I stocked up on recently.
I'll be in the SS Solo field with a goal of more laps than beers. My ass will tell me when it's time to stop riding and start drinking. That should be a win-win for me.
Back at it tomorrow morning. Wheels rolling sometime before 5:30am. Gigglewatts, donut stress scores, functional lighting threshhold, and all the other fancy bike riding buzzwords.
Coffee is my friend.

dirt for breakfast
'Twas another Saturday on Dawn Patrol sampling the goods of Patapsco Avalon. We had a nice group of TMR brethren (mostly riding 1 gear bikes).
The trails are in primo early season form with all the newly-sprouted vegetation sucking up moisture like an infant's diaper...I've become an expert on the absorption properties of diapers.
I'm not sure how to express the sublime fun that was this ride. There was plenty of climbing and railing curvy singletrack. I love riding the technical stuff over on the Balt Co side of the park. The challenges (downhill AND uphill) require a focus that intensifies the enjoyment of the ride.
We stopped at various spots to session logs, skinnies, etc and just to bullshit and enjoy the social side of mountain biking.
Best of all, I got in a long-ish ride and was still home in time to enjoy pancakes for breakfast with the rest of the day open to enjoying time with my family. Getting up before the roosters has a lot of benefits.

Dawn Patrol...man down!
Dawn patrol this morning. I started pre-dawn to ride through the Park over to CCBC to meet Trevor, Jonathon, Jim, Tim, and James for a tour of the finer offerings in Patapsco Avalon.
Fueled only with a cup of mighty fine coffee and the anticipatory adrenaline of a morning ride I high tailed it on the frozen trails and met up with the fellas at 7 sharp.
We started with the rocky goodness of the Baltimore County side before crossing the river and heading into Howard Co. The trails were frozen offering plenty of speed and spectacular traction.
The Cascade Falls were partially iced over and partially cascading. Beautiful stuff, crappy camera phone pic notwithstanding. That's the Unholy Rouleur's bike and my bike locked in a tender singlespeed embrace at the base of the falls.
Sadly, Jim hit a stump later in the ride and went airborne into a tree, cracking a helmet. We've got a man down! Bloodied and bruised he soldiered on back to my house to recover with strong coffee and about a thousand mg's of motrin while Jonathon and Tim time trialed back to pick up their cars.
Who knew the Unholy Rouleur was a nihilist? Looks like Walter tried to sink his teeth into Jim's ear.
Note the slightly concussed look and ice on the knee.
In any event it was a nice ride. Hopefully Jim will recover quickly and get back on the horse that bucked him. I hear there is some video of Trevor giving Jim a massage (or CPR) as he lay wounded on the ground. But, like the CIA interrogation tapes I doubt it will ever surface.
